WRITE A LETTER TO YOUR STUDENT'S HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELORS
High school counselors play a vital role in helping their students make the right college choice. By writing to your son or daughter's high school counselor about their positive college experience at HPU, you can help these counselors guide similar students here. In your letter, just tell the counselor what sort of student your son or daughter was in high school, both in terms of academic ability and extra curricular interests and why HPU has been such a good fit for them.
MAKE WELCOME PHONE CALLS TO NEW FAMILIES
Introduce yourself as a current HPU parent to half a dozen future students and parents in your area. These are students who have been accepted to HPU and sometimes may be still be ‘on the fence’ with their decision. A personal testimonial from a current parent can make all the difference in their decision to choose HPU.
No preset formula for this call; just speak from the heart about your child’s decision to choose HPU and how ‘extraordinary’ your experience had been thus far. Contact Stephanie Jergel via email at sjergel@highpoint.edu or by phone at 336-841-9351 in the Office of Institutional Advancement to receive a list of families in your area.
HOST A SUMMER WELCOME PARTY
One of the most rewarding ways to assist new HPU families make the transition to High Point University is to host a Summer Welcome Reception in your home. These informal gatherings are hosted by current parents to welcome new students and their families to HPU before the school year begins. It is a great opportunity to network with other parents in your area.
